At Mr. Hankey’s Toys, we don't just "make molds." We sculpt creatures.

When you look at a standard adult toy, the design inspiration is usually obvious: human anatomy. But human anatomy has limits. To push the boundaries of texture and sensation, we look elsewhere. We look at the deep ocean, ancient mythology, and the masters of sci-fi horror.

Our collectors often tell us that our pieces look as good on a display shelf as they feel in the bedroom. That is by design. Here is a look behind the curtain at the artistic DNA that shapes our most popular pours.

1. The "Bio-Mechanical" Influence (Giger’s Legacy)

You cannot talk about fantasy design without acknowledging the master: H.R. Giger.

Famous for designing the Xenomorph in Alien, Giger pioneered the "Bio-Mechanical" style, a fusion of organic flesh and industrial machines. This aesthetic is a major source of inspiration for many of our more "tech-heavy" or alien shapes.

How this translates to sensation: In a sculpture, bio-mechanical design means combining soft curves with rigid structure.

  • The Look: Vertebrae-like ridges, tubing, and exoskeleton plating.
  • The Feel: These "industrial" textures provide a distinct, rhythmic stimulation that smooth organic shapes can't mimic. The "ribs" of a bio-mech toy act like dozens of individual pressure points, creating a sensation that is intense, precise, and distinctly otherworldly.

2. Deep Sea Biology: Nature’s Monsters

Truth is often stranger than fiction. Some of our most "alien" textures are actually inspired by biology found right here on Earth; specifically, in the ocean’s midnight zone.

Creatures like the Vampire Squid, the Goblin Shark, and various cephalopods possess textures that are perfect for silicone translation.

  • Tentacles & Suckers: The concept of "suction" is translated into cup-like depressions on the toy, which creates a unique drag and friction during use.
  • Bioluminescence: This inspires our Glow-in-the-Dark and UV-Reactive pours. Just like deep-sea creatures use light to attract prey in the dark, our UV pigments turn your collection into a glowing art installation when the lights go out.

3. The Dragon’s Anatomy (Mythology)

The Dragon is perhaps the most iconic fantasy shape in the industry. But "Dragon" can mean a thousand things. Are we talking about the sleek, serpentine dragons of Eastern mythology, or the bulky, armored drakes of Western lore?

When sculpting a dragon-inspired piece, we focus on two main elements:

  1. The Scales: Scales are directional. Smooth one way, textured the other. This creates a "ratchet" effect that provides incredible stimulation on the pullout.
  2. The Knot: In biological lore (and canine anatomy), the "knot" serves as a locking function. In silicone sculpture, we exaggerate this bulbous shape to create a feeling of fullness and "popping" that realistic toys simply lack.

4. From Inspiration to Silicone: The Sculpting Process

Every new shape at Hankey’s Toys starts as an artistic concept. While we draw inspiration from different types of modeling, we treat every ridge and curve as a composition.

We have to ask the difficult engineering questions:

  • "Does this spike look cool, but hurt to use?"
  • "Will this texture hold up in Soft silicone, or will it flatten out?"
  • "Is the base stable enough to display upright?"

This is the difference between a novelty item and Hankey’s Original. We balance the Aesthetic (looking like a monster) with the Ergonomic (fitting the human body).

Summary: Collecting the Unknown

The rapid growth of the fantasy category within the adult market reflects a broader cultural shift toward imaginative, experience-driven design. Fantasy-inspired pieces offer forms, textures, and aesthetics that move beyond biological realism, opening the door to exploration rooted in creativity rather than imitation.

Choosing a Mr. Hankey’s piece is not simply a transaction for silicone craftsmanship. It is the acquisition of functional sculpture — a design object influenced by speculative fiction, myth, and the organic complexity found in nature. Each creation exists at the intersection of artistry and engineering, transforming imagination into a tangible, collectible experience.
